What is it?
Polydioxanone (PDO) Threads are a safe, biodegradable polymer that stimulates your body to produce collagen as it dissolves, to restore the skin’s firmness and elasticity. Blue Mussel Aesthetics offers both Barbed and Smooth Threads. Barbed (or lifting) threads are PDO sutures that have barbs that anchor onto tissue. Once secured, the threads are pulled to lift and lock the tissue in place to tighten and contour your features. Smooth threads are PDO threads without the lifting barbs and helps to improve skin texture, elasticity, volume, and fine lines. They are shorter and thinner and are placed more superficially in the skin. As the threads dissolve, the PDO stimulates the production of new collagen to build volume and contracts surrounding tissue to tighten the skin. They can be a more natural and subtle option than dermal fillers.
Does it hurt?
A local anesthetic will be administered to numb the area prior to the procedure. Pressure may be felt when the threads are inserted. The pinch from the anesthetic (similar to receiving injectables) is often the most “painful” part of the process.
What is the Downtime?
You may immediately resume your daily activities after a PDO Threads procedure. More intense activities, such as exercise can be resumed after 2 weeks – but please consult with your provider beforehand.
